Still secure………detail of the lock “securing” one of the old storefronts.
Straubville, N.D.
A railroad town that never got past 40-50 people. The townsite is named after the farmer that gave up property for this little rail road town to be built. Other than a triple storefront and a couple of houses. This place could be driven past and never spotted. Very rural part of the county.

A stove that met a nasty end in Mose, N.D.
This is “the town that blew away”. A tornado took away a good portion of the town in 1943 and Mose never fully recovered.
It looked as if nobody lived there now, but one place looked as if it was used for “camping”.

North Dakota
Apparently one cash crop in the state is the growing of potential rat rods and restoration pieces. This one old farmstead had a truck and three cars, two of which are seen here. Ready to be picked.

Chesapeake Grain Elevator
There was a sickly sweet foul smell in this area. Usually the smell of decay/death. Both “Poilu” and I noticed it right away. We did not investigate further. No need to find a body.
Wished we had more time here, but as it was. This was a slightly risky urbex.

Interior of abandoned school in Gascoyne North Dakota.
From the looks of the lighting and other little clues, it appears the building was used into the 1960s at least.

Appleton, Wisconsin
This place had almost any kind of booze you could think of. Used to go here with my Dad when I was little to pick up sodas and beer. I remember he used to get me a root beer and a beef jerky or slim jim for the ride home. He was particular towards Hamms, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Old Style. I miss my dad a lot. Been gone a long time already.

Next to the school is this great Milwaukee Road boxcar. The line ran from 1847 to 1986. The majority of the line was absorbed by Soo Line railroad.

The town was once a Milwaukee Road town along the rail line. Once the trains dried up, the towns soon followed.

This boxcar had a sort of waste dump of 55 gallon drums and other crap inside, so I did not linger inside.

Stumbled across this homestead quite by accident between ghost towns. We were the only people for miles, only we did not know why yet. The reason was a little farther down the road.

Olson farmstead.
Found newspapers from 1967, clothes and glass prescription drug vials with Mrs. Olson’s name on them.

Cell door. Eastern State Penitentiary.
The cells had inner and outer doors. When both were closed a prisoner was pretty well buried alive. The cell walls were over a foot thick. The “windows” are above, some cells have one, others have two. You cannot look outside, and even if you could, you would only see the outer wall of the prison.
I would be chewing and my own shoulder with madness within a fortnight.

This is part of the huge boilers that powered the plant from 1933 through 1989 or so. I am drawn to patterns like this. I also have this love of rust, as long as it is not on my stuff!

Bottle car used to haul molten pig iron. Did some different things while processing. I like the results here.
